A little less than three more months left in our 2018- 2019 school year! How time flies when we are having fun. We still have a lot more fun things to do! The 6th graders will be enjoying our final cultural arts event of the year. Some lucky class will win the final Box Top reward and we will all be meeting up at the Leesville Shopping Center for BackYard Burgers and Goodberry’s Family Night! Don’t let me forget the 8th Grade Dance! So many things still to come, so keep checking this newsletter and be sure to follow us on FB & Twitter @phmsptsa!

Cultural Arts Event:

We are excited to announce that John Claude Bemis, author and Piedmont Laureate, is coming to PHMS to work with our sixth graders.  On April 15 (Tracks 1 and 3) and April 22 (Tracks 2 and 4) Mr. Bemis will be presenting writer workshops for the entire sixth grade teams.

John Claude Bemis is the author of The Wooden Prince, Lord of Monsters, the Clockwork Dark trilogy, The Prince Who Fell from the Sky, and Flora and the Runaway Rooster. He received the Excellence in Teaching Award from UNC Chapel Hill’s School of Education for his work in the schools as an author-educator and served as North Carolina’s Piedmont Laureate. His books are available at Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and Indie Bound.  He is happy to sign any books that students bring with them.  For more info, please check out his website, johnclaudebemis.com.

This program is part of our PTSA Cultural Arts program.  Others programs included The Sound of Freedom from the NC Theatre Conservatory for our 7th and 8th graders, and also The Beast for all grades.

A Community Reads event featuring the novel, Ghost by Jason Reynolds, will be held after school in the PHMS Library on Tuesday, April 16th and Thursday, April 25th from 3:15pm - 4:30pm. We encourage parents and students to read the book and join with others in discussion, related activities, refreshments, and prizes. The events on both dates will be similar, so attendees can select the date that works best for their calendar. Please RSVP so we know how many people to expect. https://docs.google.com/…/1R7dPdbbbnScLTjzQdrXAJj…/viewform…
